BLACKHAWK'S AMERICAN INDIAN TRADITIONS

A PRAYER:

Oh Great Spirit, whose voice I hear in the wind, and whose breath gives life to the world, hear me. I come to you as one of your many children. I am small and weak; I need your strength and your wisdom. May I walk in beauty, make my eyes ever behold the red and purple sunset. Make my hands respect the things that You have made, and my ears sharp to hear your voice. Make me wise so that I may know the things which you have taught your children; the lessons you have hidden in every leaf and rock. Make me strong so that not to be superior to my brothers, but to be able to fight my greatest enemy...myself. Make me ever ready to come to you with straight eyes; so that when life fades as the fading sunset, my spirit may come to you without shame. -Chief Dan George-

**DIFFERENT BOATS... **
Even though you and I are in different boats, you in your boats, and we in our canoes, we share the same river of life. What befalls me, befalls you. And downstream in this river of life, our children will pay for our selfishness, our greed, and for our lack of vision. Five hundred years ago, you came to our pristeen lands of great forests, rolling plains, crystal clear lakes, and we have suffered in your quest for God, for glory, for gold...
BUT WE HAVE SURVIVED! - Oron Lyons-
Every word that you have spoken, and the promises you made, all the laws that you have broken, someday these debts must be repaid. Every stone will be turned over, and we'll see your ugly past. You stole the land, you'll never own her, these evil ways they will not last.

For every weed in every garden, and all the crops that ever died, while you were full and they were starving, my children will not be denied. Every fire that you have started, every fist you threw my way, for all the families you have parted, the innocent will have their day.

Someday their souls will be set free and their voices will be heard, As far as the eye can see.... They will have the final say.

From the album Raven In The Snow written and performed by Bill Miller
IS IT IRONY OR INFAMY THAT A NATION FOUNDED BY THOSE FLEEING RELIGIOUS INTOLERANCE AND SOCIAL INJUSTICE WOULD IMMEDIATELY SEEK TO CONVERT, SUBVERT, VIOLATE, DOMINATE AND ERADICATE ALL OTHERS IN THEIR QUEST FOR RELIGIOUS FREEDOM AND 'MANIFEST DESTINY'?
